Messe Essen

Show girl

Techno Classica Essen was held this year between the 8th and 11th of April. It is possibly the world's greatest classic car show. This year was of particular interest as it marked significant birthdays for a number of famous makes, including Fiat, Audi, and Bugatti.

What follows are the photos I took while visiting the show. It should be said that these form an overview with some personal bias. As such, there will be more Porsche photos than any other! One or two might be of cars I saw travelling to of from the show. See if you can spot them! The photos are indexed, so feel free to take a shortcut to the make of your interest.

Further information over events at Messe Essen can be obtained from the Messe Essen site.

Photos were either taken with a Canon Powershot Pro 70 digital camera, or by a Hanimex 35mm film camera with subsequent developing onto Photo CD. subsequent manipulation has been carried out with IrfanView digital editing software. The HTML code was custom written by hand.

Bugatti

The EB110 appears quite infrequently at car shows. Luckily, one was at Messe Essen this year. The car is even more awesome that the photos can possibly convey.

Many nice cars, including a Daytona, a GTO replica, and a 275GTB as used by Claude LaLauft (incorrect spelling!) in his famous 5am race through the streets of Paris!

Peugeot

The Quasar has featured in at least one dream car book. It's futuristic looks and powerplant makes this car stand out from the crowd. The 1600cc engine produces 600+ bhp. Engine life expentancy is anybodys guess!

Unknown cars

Can you identify these cars? If so, please E-Mail me. One of them looks suspiciously similar to the Westfield FW400 featured in the December '98 issue of Top Gear magazine. The second car, the C12 appears to be a Callaway Corvette. The Americal company Callaway boost the performance of cars while also managaing to improve fuel economy.
