PCNZ Southern Weekend of the Year - 2000

Starting point of the trial

What follows are photos from the Porsche Club New Zealand Southern Weekend of the Year. This was a magical three day event that took place in March 2000.

Photos were taken with a Creative Webcam Go in high resolution mode. Unfortunately due to limitations in the camera, the full size images are somewhat blurred. Subsequent manipulation has been carried out with IrfanView digital editing software. The HTML code was custom written by hand.

Further images will be available as soon as I have the photos taken with my film camera developed.

Friday night at Kip & Sue's

Many people chose to meet on the Friday night. Kip & Sue invited everyone for a BBQ at their house located in a delightful area just a few minutes drive from Picton. Of interest was the official opening of their new garage - to be the home of many different Porsches over the coming years.

Saturday morning at the motel

Everyone awoke to blue skies and wonderful weather. The start of a great day!

A car park in Blenheim

Everyone converged at an agreed meeting spot in Blenheim, some without even having breakfast. This was the starting point of the fun trial for the day. The object of the trial was to visit numerous checkpoints where individuals would attempt to act out parts from famous movies, to be recorded for ever on video tape! Mystery packages in the form of unassembled toy airplanes were also given to each car...

In the Marlborough Sounds

One of the stops where a scene from "Gone with the Wind" was performed. Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!

Plane construction in Havelock

A short detour was taken in order to find a secluded spot for some model plane assembly. What better place for a test flight, right near the water...

Test pilots are go!

After a few more stops, everyone met at a Kiwi pub for a pre-arranged lunch. A competition was also arranged to see whose plane would fly the furtherest. Sadly, some planes did not make it far (well that's what happens when you wind a rubber band too far I guess!).

Some civilised tasting

Travelling back to Bleheim, some people chose to visit the local wineries. Wonderful sunny weather the whole time! Later on, we met up at the Blenheim Officer's Mess for a smashing evening. Good food, great company, and a chance for everyone to watch a video of the acting that had taken place earlier in the day!

Let the games commence

After another early morning rise, everyone converged at the Blenheim air field. There was racing for everyone. Pre-arranged gymkhana events around cones, and some high speed racing around a larger track. Lunch was in the Officer's Mess, followed by more racing. Later in the afternoon people went their own way, many heading home to Christchurch.

This really was the Southern Weekend of the Year!
