This project arose due to the death of a 29 inch Mitsubishi television. The television was originally purchased with two external speakers that attach directly to the sides of the television. The sound from these speakers was really very good indeed, so when the television was replaced with a model with a single in-built speaker, the two external speakers were retained.
Two stands were built for the speakers, the footprint being enough to stop them from falling over, yet being narrow enough to allow placement right up against the new television. As can be seen, a simple construction method was chosen, however this works very well in practice.
To power the speakers I built an LM1875 amplifier. The result is really pretty good. The soundstage is most impressive with this setup and really isn't too bad even as a hi-fi setup.
